  • Ran cross-country and track for coach Norm Kitching at Mont Pleasant HS
     

  • Broke many records set by former Mont Pleasant runner and Athletic Hall of Fame member, Steve Szumachowski
     

  • Won the individual National Cross-Country Championship in 1935 & 1936  (Nott Terrace HS won the team championship each year)
     

  • Set a record in the 1935 National Championship race, defeating the defending champion (NT runners finished second, third and eighth)
     

  • Set a new indoor record of 4:31.6 at the Madison Square Garden National Interscholastic Mile Championship, slashing nearly five seconds off the old national indoor record (February, 1936)
     

  • Ran on Mont Pleasant’s Interscholastic Medley Relay Championship team at the Penn Relays, running a 4:30 mile anchor lap (April, 1936)
     

  • Broke Glenn Cunningham’s world record for the scholastic mile when he ran 4:24.4 at the En Joie Health Invitation Meet in Binghamton (May, 1936) - recognized as a record by the National Federation of State High School Athletic Associations
     

  • Also ran a record setting 4:22.3 mile at the Brown Meet in May, 1936
     

  • Came within a fraction of a second of equaling the world’s interscholastic two mile record of 9:53
     

  • Unofficially broke the two mile record in May, 1936, when he ran 9:48.4 (wind aided)
     

  • Won almost every race he entered while at Mont Pleasant HS
     

  • Member of the Mont Pleasant Sports Hall of Fame
