Collaborate to offer Mentoring Program
The Boys & Girls Club of Schenectady in partnership with
Schenectady City Schools offers the PROMISES school-based
mentoring program which aims to match caring, motivated adults
from our community with at-risk children in grades 4-8.
Research shows that mentoring has a positive effect on both the
child and the mentor. Children who are mentored often
experience an increase in academic achievement, are truant less
often and participate less in risk-taking behaviors.
Mentored children also have a better attitude toward learning,
toward their elders and toward helping in general. They
also show improved relationships with their parents.
