Safe School Environment & Violence Prevention Activities

  • Provide in-service training for school staff in research-based anti-violence programs

  • Expand the Second Step violence prevention program and the Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports Model

  • Implement the Olweus Bully Prevention program

  • Anger management programs for at-risk students

  • Fund school security officers at the secondary level

Violence/Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drug (ATOD) Prevention Activities

  • Substance abuse counselor for at-risk middle and high school students

  • Implement CASASTART program at the middle school level to provide individual family and group counseling

  • Enhance after school youth development programs to provide social marketing campaigns designed to build students' skills in resisting negative lifestyle choices

Student Behavioral, Social and Emotional Supports

  • Provide CASA START Program for middle school students identified as most in need of services

  • Therapeutic adventure-based youth leadership programs

  • Implement PINS Truancy Diversion Program

Mental Health Services

  • Expand capacity for school-based clinical services through Child Guidance community-based organization

  • Offer Functional Family Therapy to at-risk students and families

  • Anger management and aggression replacement therapy groups in after school program settings

Early Childhood Social and Emotional Learning

  • Early Childhood counselor for at-risk students and families

  • Implement Strengthening Families parenting education program sessions to increase parents' knowledge of child health and development

  • Partner with community-based organizations to provide pre-school outreach campaign for pediatricians, child care providers and community agencies

  • Coordinate screening for emotional wellness for incoming kindergarten students through the local Child and Family Clinic Plus Program

  • Coordinate between Schenectady City School District and community Family Literacy Programs

  • Early Childhood counselor for at-risk students and families

  • Strengthening Families parenting education program sessions to increase parents' knowledge of child health and development

The program has extensive evaluation, marketing and sustainability design dedicated to enhancing and improving SSHS services.
