Keane 5th
grader's recipe for
Golden Honey Snack Mix earns him first place in Cook Off
Congratulations
to James Gross, Sarazayn Akari and Sohan Rambharose, top three
finishers in the 2011 Future Chefs Healthy Snack Competition
held February 9 at Schenectady High School
Gross, a fifth
grader from William C. Keane Elementary School took the top spot
with his recipe for Golden Honey Snack Mix. He was awarded
a gift certificate to Price Chopper and a cookbook.
Rambharose's
recipe for Banana Dog earned him second place. He is also
a fifth grader from William C. Keane Elementary School.
Akari, a fifth
grader from Central Park Magnet School took third place
with Fatosh.
Rambharose and
Akari each received a cookbook.
The 12
finalists who participated in the cook off were selected by a
nomination committee that sampled more than 90 recipes.
The competition
is designed to educate
students about healthy eating habits, called for favorite
after-school snack recipes.
The judging was based on healthiness of foods, simplicity of
preparation, kid friendliness, judges choice and presentation.
