Credit Recovery Program

The Credit Recovery Program is an innovative program designed to give students an alternative method of instruction to regain credit lost due to a previous unsuccessful grade.  

PLATO Learning is an online, web based computer application that delivers tutorials, applications and assessments for this alternative learning environment.  The digital curriculum technology emphasizes self-paced and self-directed learning strategies.

FAQ's about the Credit Recovery Program

Who develops the curriculum for the Credit Recovery Program?
Schenectady City School district curriculum coordinators, teachers and instructional technology support specialists design the curriculum and support students during their
Credit Recovery classes. All skills within each of the Credit Recovery courses are aligned with the NYS Learning Standards.

What students are eligible for the Credit Recovery Program?
Students who have failed a core course needed for graduation are eligible. Priority for enrollment will be based on the student’s grade level: senior, junior, sophomore, and freshman.  Participation is based on availability of coursework that might be needed for the
recovery of credit. Student’s individual circumstances will be considered.  

When is Credit Recovery available?
There are 3 ways students can participate in the
Credit Recovery Program:

1.
  Students can be “scheduled in” to a Credit Recovery class during the school day. Maximum enrollment during a school day session is 20.

2.
  Students who have a study hall on their class schedule can elect to attend the technology center and work on their course during the school day.

3.
  
Students can “drop in” the technology center during after school hours to work on Credit Recovery classes.

How do students become enrolled in the Credit Recovery Program?
Students or their parents should contact the student’s guidance counselor to discuss the student’s progress towards graduation and to determine if he/she is an eligible candidate for a course offered through the
Credit Recovery Program.

What is required of students enrolled in the Credit Recovery Program?
1. Students are required to complete a
Credit Recovery contract that includes:

  • Student Information Sheet

  • Guidelines for Student Success – including attendance policies

  • District Computer Use Policy

2. Students are required to have a notebook at all time to take notes during their
    sessions.
3. Students are required to follow all school – wide rules and regulations
