The
Schenectady City School District's cable station
features a daily slate of student-produced television programs,
specials and a repeating bulletin board that
promotes activities and events happening within the district's
eighteen schools.
The SCS-TV
production studio is located in Schenectady High School's
Sayles School of Fine Arts. The state-of-the-art
production centre includes an editing suite loaded with audio
and video equipment, a professional studio with a strand
lighting system and set props. Sayles School of Fine Arts
also houses Revolution Studio, a professional digital recording
studio utilized by students
to record and produce demos and CD's.
The Sayles
School of Fine Arts offers many opportunities for students to
get involved in TV production and the fine arts both in school
course work and extra-curricular activities. SSFA offers
courses such as theatre, video production, film-making,
Electronic News Gathering (ENG), acting, playwriting and
directing. There are also many extra-curricular clubs and
activities available to all students including the production
club, Blue Roses Theatre Co. and film projects.
In
addition to showcasing an array of student talent - both behind
and in front of the camera - SCS-TV is also another means to
reach out and connect with the community.
Parents,
grandparents, neighbors and friends of Schenectady students can
see school talent shows, school competitions, sporting events
and ceremonies by tuning into SCS-TV. Over the course of
the year, the station also presents many educational shows and
Regents review sessions. SCS-TV also features public service
announcements and promotional messages such as the long-running
"Schenectady Reads," campaign which provides tips and words to
encourage reading. The campaign included more than 20
student-produced spots featuring area politicians, local
media celebrities and business people.
Over the last
year, SCS-TV members have put their talents to work serving
corporate clients. In January
2007, a team of SCS-TV production club members won a Price
Chopper video contest. The East-Greenbush Price Chopper
hired SCS-TV to write, act, shoot, direct and edit a ten minute
training video, The Bagging Zone an instructional video
on how to bag groceries.

Chopper. The video, which includes a student actor as
host, is used corporate-wide to train new employees. (Video

In addition to
Price Chopper, the list of SCS-TV
corporate clients includes
Zone 5 Police
Academy, Albany Police Department, St. Clare's Hospital and Youth for
Christ. The club members look forward to expanding the
list in the near future.
SCS-TV is also
venturing into business with clients who wish to sponsor SCS-TV
original shows.
