Who can be a
parent member?
Any parent of a student with a disability who has an IEP
(Individual Education Plan) or any parent of a student who was
declassified within the last five years.
What does a parent
member do?
The parent member is a welcoming face for parents at their
child's special education meeting. The parent member helps
parents ask their questions and makes sure that parents are
being heard.
Is there training
for parent members?
Yes. The school district will work with the parent member
individually to define your role and answer any questions.
When does a parent
member volunteer?
We
can schedule you to attend meetings based on your schedule
during the day. What works best for you will work best
for us.
Does the parent
member have to know special education procedures and law?
No. You are there to help parents ask questions and
describe their concerns, goals and dreams for their children
during the special education meeting.
